Focus Group

I created a focus group with a section of the target audience to gain feedback on my final products.

Lucy- Age 15:
I think the final products are very profession looking and they have a clear theme running through them. I like the contrast between city and nature, this brings a new twist to Nicki Minaj, a slightly softer side.

Amy - Age 22:
I like the look of all three of the final products, they are interesting and eye catching. My only criticism would be that on the digipak the order needs to be changed to ensure when it is folded everything is in its correct place and facing the right way up.

Milli - Age 18:
The same text and font is used through out all three products which shows consistency and links them all together. This makes Nicki Minaj's products recognizable and therefor I would be more likely to purchase them.

Hannah - Age 17:
I like the flyer most as I found this was the most eye catching product. I like the contrast between Nicki Minaj in black and white and the background in colour. I think that would have maybe been just as effective as the contrast between city and nature, but I can see how this is portraying a different side to Minaj's personality.

Unit 17 – Evaluation

I feel the quality of the products that I have produced are of a high standard. From my initial plans I have progressed and successfully achieved this standard through improving each design. I also perfected my final digipak, flyer and programme using the extremely helpful feedback from my client, which helped pull my ideas together and make my final products look complete and professional.

I think I have created products which appeal to the target audience as I have combined Nicki Minaj’s Barbie look with a contrasting natural and less harsh look, which would appeal to the older side of the audience as it gave it a more mature feel.  The target audience for Nicki Minaj is predominantly female and I feel I have stuck to the conventions of a female artist when creating my products.

When comparing my digipak to a professional digipak, I feel mine doesn't come to the high standard of the professional one. The main reason being the photography on the profession digipak is a very high quality and it is very clean and neat with a white background. Whereas my digipak uses darker colours and has a more grainy look to it, making it look lower quality.

The professional flyer, again, is of a higher quality than my flyer. I think the clean lines and strong colour theme of black white and gold are what make this flyer look so professional, along with the high quality typography. It is a little more difficult to compare my flyer with the professional flyer as the styles are very different, but I feel mine could be improved with clearer text and cleaner lines.

I have chosen a different artist for the tour programme as I couldn't find one for 'Jessie J'. I have found one for 'Christina Aguilera" who is a female artist with a similar target audience to Nicki Minaj. I found that her tour programme contained a much larger content than the tour programme I have created. I think given more time I could create something of similar quality to this professional one, but as it stands mine would need improvement to be of that level. I think the main issue with my tour programme, as well as my digipak and flyer, is the quality of the typography, and keeping things simple and clean.

I feel I have pushed myself in this unit with the equipment I have used. I have now become very confident in Photoshop, where before I was a little unsure. To take my photographs I used a Nikon D3000, which helped create a good final image, I do feel I need more experience with the camera though as they didn't look as professional as they could have done if I had known more about how to use the camera. I used Photoshop on each of my products to change the contrast and hue of images and to adjust size, shape and orientation of each image and to add text to the final products.

I feel I have been very responsive to my client, I have taken on board all feedback given and used that to create a final piece they are happy with. When I got to the stage when I was happy with my final products, I once again presented them to my client and gained feedback to improve each product again. My client pointed out that on my tour programme the text on the production credits page was difficult to read due to the size and the pale text. I will darken the text and enlarge the size to improve this issue, before it is sent off to be printed. The only issue with the digipak was again a difficulty to see text on the 'thank you' page, my client suggested that I increase the opacity of the image behind to make the text clearer and easier to read. I will again, edit this part of the digipak before it is sent off for printing so it comes out clear and easy to read. My client was happy with the flyer I had created, her only concern was that there were no social networking icons on the poster, showing people they can get more information there. I will make sure to add 'Facebook', 'Twitter' and 'YouTube' icons to the poster and make it clear to the audience that they can find out more online at these sites.

I am happy with the outcome of this unit, although it is not as high standard as these professional products that I have compared mine to, I feel that I have learnt what I need to improve on to get my work to this very high standard.
